Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre Celebrates Five Year Anniversary

Shanghai Hawker Pacific is celebrating five years in business this month. The facility was formally dedicated in April 2010. The Joint Venture between Shanghai Airport Authority and Hawker Pacific was the result of discussions dating back to 2002 between the two companies. It resulted in the world class FBO and MRO located at Hongqiao International Airport which opened after construction began in 2008.

Since opening, the FBO has handled more than 19,000 business aviation movements at both Hongqiao and Pudong International Airports in Shanghai. They expect to go over the 20,000 mark this summer.

Additionally, the Joint Venture has the distinction of having opened the first MRO for business aviation in China in the fall of 2011. They represent Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault, and Hawker-Beechcraft as a service centre.

The company is also host to the annual ABACE show, having hosted their first ABACE in 2012, with this year’s show taking place at the facility between April 14th to the 16th.

“The five years we have been open have seen vast improvements for business aviation in China,” according to the General Manager, Carey Matthews. “The ability to normally operate a business aircraft in China has continually gotten better over this period. It’s not just Shanghai, but throughout the whole country, the environment has markedly improved. We hope that we have played some part in making that happen. This facility has helped local and international operators have confidence that when they operate in Shanghai that there is the all-around level of support they need. Having an FBO, professional ground handling for business jets, and a dedicated MRO all combine to create a level of confidence for operations to either buy aircraft based in China, or to fly here from overseas.”

Matthews added that “None of this would have been possible without the complete support of both Shanghai Airport Authority and Hawker Pacific. Both have unrelentingly supported this program and been extremely patient in seeing the market develop to the size that it has.”
